ACCOUNTANT

The Role:

Location: Calgary

Hours: Full time

Reporting to: Manager of Corporate Accounting / Controller

On behalf of our client, a prominent family office and operating company, we are looking to fill their need for an Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity to work in both the family office and the operating company as this is a shared role. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain a broad range of experience and work amongst separate and distinct teams.

The Accountant is responsible to assist with the day-to-day accounting function as well as full cycle bookkeeping and financial compliance. This role will also assist the Controller in tax planning and any other additional ad-hoc projects that arise. The successful candidate will also assist with internal and external reporting of the operating company’s Canadian and US operations

The best person for this role will be a strong team player, detail oriented, flexible, adaptable and work well with little oversight. The Accountant will provide effective solutions to practical financial issues and will enjoy the opportunity to gain unique experience and apply their knowledge base in two small high performing team.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparation of monthly financial statements;
  • Full cycle accounting;
  • Full cycle bookkeeping;
  • Assist with tax compliance activities;
  • Assist with the preparation of timely and accurate financial information on a monthly or quarterly basis, including net worth statements, tax forecasting, investment performance reporting, financial statements, and compile supporting documentation and working papers for these activities;
  • Assist in preparing quarterly the Board and Audit Committee packages, including Financial and MD&A summaries and charts;
  • Assist with year-end Financial Statements and note disclosure for various companies;
  • Prepare and review routine and non-routine journal entries for month-end processes;
  • Calculate, post, and reconcile monthly interest accruals, amortization of fees, principal, and interest payments on the company’s long-term debt;
  • Complete bank and corporate account reconciliations;
  • Support year-end audit process and audit requirement; and
  • Complete other special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Preferred Skillset:

  • 2 – 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Successful back check process for both criminal and credit;
  • Working towards a CPA;
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and adaptable;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Highly proficient with Word and Excel and an understanding of accounting systems;
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines consistently;
  • Strong team player in a small office environment;
  • Strong problem solving abilities;
  • Ability to adapt to new technology and the continuous improvement of processes; and
  • Must be able to perform this role confidentially and discreetly.
