Senior Accountant

Full-Time, Permanent | Calgary, AB


Location: Office in Downtown Calgary

Reports to: Controller, Chinook Valley Inc.

On behalf of our client, we are looking to fill their need for a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is an integral member within the Accounting Department.  Key deliverables include preparation of historical financial data, involvement in annual budgets and subsequent variance analysis, and cash management.  Strong working relationships with management, co-workers, and third parties (i.e. external auditors, client contacts, etc.) are critical for success.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the monthly reporting and multi-currency consolidation of several entities with complex accounting transactions;
  • Provide reporting to clients with operating highlights and financial insights;
  • Assist with preparation of annual budgets;
  • Assist with and/or prepare the financial statements for several entities and on a consolidated basis;
  • Prepare working papers to support the annual financial statement audits/reviews;
  • Prepare journal entries and correcting adjustments;
  • Prepare general monthly accounting and reconciliations for clients;
  • Process and reconcile inter-company transfers;
  • Prepare management fee invoices and issue to clients;
  • Manage the completion of month-end binders;
  • Manage accounting records of assigned clients;
  • Compliance reporting for corporate taxation requirements including Canadian federal, provincial and GST;
  • Create and/or maintain special project, capital and other reports;
  • Develop and ensure policies, standards and procedures established for internal controls and record security/retention are adhered to;
  • Provide backup support for the Controller and other Senior Accountant; and
  • Other special projects as assigned.


To meet the challenges of this role, the ideal candidate must be a highly organized and energetic team player that can work well with minimal supervision.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Other requirements include:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a similar role or post-secondary education with a major in accounting or equivalent;
  • CPA certification;
  • Above average proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • Experience with Quickbooks Online accounting software;
  • Excellent report writing skills;
  • Problem solving abilities;
  • High level of confidentiality;
  • Very detailed orientated and organized; and
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
