STABLE HAND

Full-Time, Permanent | Millarville, AB

THE ROLE:

Location: Ranch 20 minutes from the outskirts of Calgary

Hours: Full-Time, Permanent

Reporting to: Horse Manager

On behalf of a client, we are seeking a Stable Hand that will be responsible for the daily care and well-being of client horses under the supervision of the Horse Manager. Key duties include feeding, grooming, exercising, and monitoring the health of the horses. The Stable Hand ensures a safe and clean environment for both horses and clients, contributing to the overall operation and success of the ranch. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of teamwork, initiative, flexibility, and reliability, and have a superb attention to detail and be always highly professional.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Blanketing and turning out horses in the morning, turning in at the end of the day;
  • Cleaning and bedding stalls;
  • Feeding the horses according to pre-set guidelines and schedules;
  • Reporting any issues to the Horse Manager;
  • General cleaning duties around the facility to ensure the highest degree of cleanliness at all times;
  • Minor maintenance of the stable facilities, where required;
  • Operating tractors, quads, and manure spreaders;
  • Ad hoc projects, as assigned; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the above details, other qualifications include:

  • Experience operating heavy equipment;
  • An understanding of the care and attention needed while caring for animals;
  • Ability to lift 60+ pounds, and perform physically repetitive tasks;
  • Must be able to take initiative;
  • Be courteous, discreet, honest, reliable and responsible;
  • Must be adaptable and flexible;
  • Follow instructions precisely and adhere to established processes and procedures;
  • Possess a great attitude and excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with others;
  • A minimum of a high school education with 3-5 years of experience in a related position;
  • Provide own reliable transportation to the property and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history;
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada; and
  • Successfully complete a criminal, credit and driving backcheck process.
