On behalf of our client, Poultry Health Services Ltd., we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to lead their finance operations. This role is pivotal in overseeing accounting functions, managing budgets, and providing strategic financial insights to support the company’s growth and success. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee all accounting functions for multiple companies, including detailed reconciliations, accurate data entry, and ensuring proper month-end cut-offs for sales invoices and expenses.
  • Provide timely and accurate month-end financial reports to the senior management team.
  • Present financial reports, budgets, and project updates to senior management and owners.
  • Create and manage weekly and annual cash flow projections for multiple companies.
  • Offer strategic financial insights to support business decisions.
  • Prepare and oversee budgets, project estimates, and financial forecasts.
  • Assist with the selection and implementation of new accounting software.
  • Support research proposals, client quotes, contract negotiations, and manufacturing cost tracking.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure financial objectives are met.
  • Supervise daily financial operations: invoicing, deposits, payments, and overdue accounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry, financial reporting, tax submissions, and payroll processing.
  • Supervise year-end bookkeeping and reporting with external accountants and bookkeepers.
  • Manage SRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) reporting, tax submissions, and remittance calculations.
  • Develop and manage purchase order processes and client payment plans.
  • Oversee facilities management, including maintenance coordination, rental agreements, leases, legal agreements, insurance budgets, and building projects.
  • Manage vehicle fleet operations: maintenance schedules, lease/purchase negotiations, cost reporting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Manage expenses, credit cards, banking, exchange and foreign currency accounts.
  • Provide financial leadership in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and administrative team.
  • Drive performance management, onboarding, training, and succession planning.
  • Support colleagues and management during leaves of absence.
  • Provide feedback on company processes with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Support product sales and inventory management initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of a phantom share program for key management team members.
  • Perform other duties as required to support business operations.

The successful candidate for this position will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, strong operational accounting skills, and will be a self-starter that is capable of working independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team. QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the above details, other qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA designation preferred).
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles with experience leading teams.
  • Operational experience including working with inventory systems, pricing and supply chain processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience using accounting software i.e. Sage (required), NetSuite and Quick Books (desirable).
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Successfully complete a criminal back check process.
